Assistant Superintendent - Position #00170246

Rutledge, GA
Course Operation: Public 18 hole State Park Golf Course with Champion Bermuda Grass greens and Tiftway 419 fairways and tee boxes. Older automatic irrigation system.
Duties: Responsible for Golf Course Maintenance, Clubhouse Grounds and Driving Range Maintenance. This includes providing agronomic direction to maintain the golf course at the highest quality possible at all times for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses and other applicable plant materials. Plan programs for turf/grass, fertilizer and chemical maintenance. Energetic, detail oriented, clean, neat, able to adapt well to changing environment. Responsible for making proper purchases following State of Georgia Purchasing Guidelines, work with Golf and Park Managers on annual budget and achieve goals throughout the year through proper forecasting, expense controls and labor management. Must have a current Georgia class 24 pesticide license or be able to obtain one within three months of employment.
Salary: $26,672.16 annually.
Benefits: State of GA benefits are optional except for retirement which is mandatory.
Requirements: One year of experience at a year-round golf course in grounds maintenance, equipment operation, calibration and application of fertilizers and pesticides, irrigation maintenance and repair, some mechanical experience, training and supervisory experience.

First Assistant Superintendent
Atlanta Country Club
Marietta, GA
Primary Purpose:  The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent.  Under their supervision, assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course property and supervision of the maintenance crew and does related work as required.  The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during their absence.
Duties: Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of the property by scheduling work and supervising the employees and the use of the equipment.  Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.  Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.  Performs routine safety inspections of all equipment; instills safety as a primary thought during all training.  Must be able to read and interpret chemical labels.  Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of Maintenance facility work area, storage areas and equipment.  Determines work procedures and expedites workflow.  Locates and identifies weeds or invasive plants and implements appropriate eradication and control measures.  Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed.  Assists in the development and enforcement of policies, rules and regulations for the golf course. Performs all other related tasks as deemed necessary by management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 Ability to read and write; ability to perform basic arithmetic.  Able to perform calibration of sprayers and spreaders.  Knowledge of chemicals and calibration of pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides.  Knowledge of various chemicals used in the industry; ability to use such in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions.  Must present a positive, professional image.  Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented.  Strong interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills.  Reliable and predictable attendance.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors; ability to work cooperatively with employees, and the general public.  Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion and to carry out assignments with minimal instructions.  Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Salary: $40,000 to $45,000 Dependent on Experience.

Requirements: 2-4 year degree in Turf Management or related field. A minimum of 2 years in a technical or 2nd Assistant Position Preferred but no required.  Valid Driver License.
Licenses or Certifications: Employee must obtain a GA pesticide application license within 6 months of hire.

Course Operation: Just outside the quaint small town of Braselton, Georgia, Traditions of Braselton Golf Club showcases a rolling, tree-lined countryside that has been skillfully molded into a championship-caliber golf layout reminiscent of a traditional northeast links course. The course was designed by Arthur Hills protégé Mike Dasher, who has other Atlanta projects such as The Golf Club of Georgia and The Standard Club to his credit. The tees, fairways and roughs at Traditions feature Bermuda grass, with putting surfaces showcasing bentgrass greens.
Duties: The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the supervision as directed of the golf course maintenance operation and staff under the leadership of the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure the healthy growth of the golf course & Clubhouse Grounds grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials. The duties include assessing and providing guidance and expertise to maintain rigorous industry and environmental standards in turf quality, including use of specialized knowledge in various fields of agronomy and horticulture. Based on such knowledge, responsible for making recommendations and decisions to address or direct others to address any issues with turf quality in conjunction with the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent will participate in the hiring, training and developing all staff, including ensuring the staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
Salary: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour.

Although it opened as a 27-hole golf course, the addition of nine more holes in November of 2006 made Mirror Lake a 36-hole facility. Mirror Lake is set on the shore of the beautiful, 100-acre Mirror Lake and the modern design of the course features some of the area’s most spectacular views.

Duties: Having a working knowledge of the ins-&outs of a bentgrass management is essential.  Must be familiar with irrigation systems, pesticide management and staff leadership. I am looking for a candidate that has a drive and a passion for excellence.  In addition, I want someone that wants to be involved in a pioneering effort to utilize new technology, ideas and  organic management practices and concepts.  On course research is a very important requirement.
Salary: $36,000 to $40,000.

Horticulturist

Course Operation:
Carmel Country Club is a member owned 36 hole golf facility in Charlotte, North Carolina that was built in 1947. The club consists of two championship golf courses, clubhouse landscape, tennis facility, and large resort style swimming complex. Over the years Carmel has been very active in capital upgrades with more planned in the future. The horticulturist is responsible the design, planting, purchasing, installation of all landscape beds and associated lawn areas at the clubhouse, pool, and tennis complex. The horticulturist will work with the Director of Greens and Grounds to see that all departmental goals are met to Carmel CC’s standards. The position is required to supervise, train, and motivate employees to complete the daily tasks in a sufficient manner. The horticulturist is expected to work within an assigned budget to achieve the company goals. The position will work cooperatively with the Director of Greens and Grounds, Golf Course Superintendents, Equipment Technicians, and staff to provide the highest quality conditions.
Duties: -Involved with the planning and design of all perennial and annual landscape beds. -Responsible for the selection, purchase, and scheduling of all plant material installations. -Maintains all ornamental shrubs, trees, and flowers. -Maintains driveway entrance and parking lots in a clean presentable fashion. -Assists with the pruning, removal, and treatments of trees associated with club house grounds. -Follows proper cultural practices to ensure proper health of ornamental plantings including pruning, fertilizer and pesticide applications, irrigation repair/scheduling, and weed management. -Formulates plans for improvements and new variety to keep the landscape up to date. -Maintains indoor plants inside the clubhouse.
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000.
